THENS — The Greek government on Thursday backed fresh austerity measures including a wave of privatisations, in a multi-annual budget which must now go to parliament and is set to further inflame unions.
The backing for the measures came after a marathon six-hour cabinet meeting, with some members of the ruling Socialist Pasok party reluctant to lend their support, as the government seeks to appease its creditors without further inflaming the populace amid a wave of strikes.
