What's relevant here is that we are always told that the people who run TV and Hollywood are ratings whores and that's all they care about. That's their cover. They are the Ruling class' marketing department. Their function is to give prominence the official government line, and to contain debate and dissent within acceptable limits. MSNBC fired Phil Donahue when his was there number one show ratingswise. Likewise, Uyger's show has been doing very well, as he documents, but he was passed over for a sweet time slot. He and Donahue are gone and faux leftists like Rachel Maddow will be there for as long as they like.
Broadcast and print news media are the propaganda arm of international capital, and they will happily tank a successful show if its host doesn't tow the ideological line.
