I don't mean to suggest that the people writing these articles are disingenuous (some of them anyway), but the ones which praise the operation and those which are critical in one way or another both serve to authenticate it, and to kettle the discussion within acceptable limits. Thus the real issue is whether what the government is claiming is credible, as it is extremely unlikely and no evidence has been offered to substantiate it. We are told that they tracked down Bin Laden and killed him, then helicoptered him to a ship in the Arabian sea which then dropped him into the depths. Thus we are asked to trust a government which has certainly not earned it, and one that has a long, ghastly history of such deceptions. Once again we are asked to abandon our critical faculties and rally round the flag. This isn't good enough, nor will it ever be. If the government wants me to believe this, it will have to prove it.
