Warren Buffet's Odisha (aka Orissa) Land Grab Update, July 3

On my long list of objections to capitalism is the cynicism of it. The authorities in Odisha are now investigating the "abuse" of children in the protests. The state government, which has ordered police to destroy the villagers' vines and rice paddies, is now using the welfare of the village children as pretext to seize the land of their parents. Does it get any lower than this?

NCPCR team in Orissa to investigate 'misuse' of kids in anti-Posco stir

Report by Orissa Diary correspondent; Bhubaneswar: A 3 member delegation of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) arrive in Odisha to investigate the issue of Child rights violation by Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS) for using children politically...The delegation will visit trouble torn Gobindpur to investigate participation of children in anti-Posco stir. It should be noted that nearly 400 children participated in anti-Posco stir against land acquisition. Earlier taking a serious note of alleged "misuse" of children in anti-Posco agitation, the Women and Child Development Minister Anjali Behera has asked the DSWO to give a report on the condition of kids, who had participated in the anti-Posco agitation. The authorities in Jagatsinghpur district said kids were motivated to join the stir by their parents and Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS).

Jagatsingpur: The Odisha government on Monday declared that the Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS) dharna using children as human shields at Gobindpur is unlawful after clamping Section 144 on the area.

“Prohibitory orders have been issued against gathering of the anti-project people at Gobindpur,” said Paradip Additional District Magistrate(ADM) Saroj Kanta Choudhry. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik, however, clarified that the decision was taken at the district administration level. “This is a routine decision,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Maoists gird for battle.

Maoists call for Odisha bandh on June 30[1]

Bhubaneswar: The CPI (Maoist) has opposed State Government’s land acquisition drive in Dhinkia and Gobindpur, for the proposed site for Posco steel project and has called for a bandh on June 30.

In a statement on Monday, State organisational secretary of the Maoist party Sabyasachi Panda said, the ruling Government, had been displacing the locals from their native land only to hand it over to a foreign company. The forcible method it has adopted to acquire land is not acceptable, he added.

If the Maoists do come to the defense of the villagers they will of course be denounced as terrorists.
