Israel Update, 5 August

Weekend protests planned across Israel

JERUSALEM, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Organizers say they hope protests across Israel Saturday will bring out more than 200,000 demonstrators angry at the government over housing and other issues.

Roee Neuman, spokesman for the tent city protest movement, said the size and fervor of the protests would be influenced by the Knesset's approval Wednesday of the national housing committees law, a key issue for the protesters, The Jerusalem Post reported Friday.

Meanwhile the Israeli press is slinging it far and wide:

Israel’s high degree of inequality is not, by itself, proof of economic injustice so much as of how globalized the Israeli economy is. Our growth is driven by high-technology exports in software, value-added components, advanced medical devices and other “solutions.” So we are bound to have a social profile more like Silicon Valley than a manufacturing city like Wolfsburg, Germany. I could work a lifetime teaching at a business school and not amass the fortune of one former student, who just sold his start-up to Getty Images for over $20 million. Bless him.

Silicon Valley as an example of a slow-growth economy? Now that's funny.

The rest is just as bad.

The Fascist government of Israel seems undeterred though:

Israeli Police Restrict Access to Jerusalem for Ramadan

For security reasons...

This article is of no particular interest save for the advertisement--Rand Paul's Right to Work Bill. Now why would an Israeli newspaper carry adds for American politicians, particularly one who advocates the stoppage of aid to Israel? To ask such a question is to answer it, is it not?
