"Thinking about Revolution"

This pamphlet might better have been called "Common Sense" had not that phrase been used previously, and under conspicuously similar circumstances. Democracy, dear brothers and sisters, is the only possibility. Capitalism doesn't work, and neither does representative government. We must have direct, democratic control over those institutions which affect our lives. Allowing essential public concerns to be owned by private individuals and to be run for profit is not merely shamelessly unethical, it is just insane. Land usage and allocation, commerce, and industry are everybody's business as it affects us all. They should be "owned" by and serve the interests of all, not just a handful of rich entrepreneurs.

This pamphlet is an invitation to a new kind of society. Its authors describe plainly and honestly what their vision is, and what kind of effort will be required to effect the radical, democratic change they propose. I don't agree with everything and you probably won't either, but I hope that like me you will find the general thrust of the argument compelling. The time has come, in fact, it's long overdue. Do you want to live in a society of free equals, or one of politicians, hedge fund managers, suffocating poverty and endless wars?
