The Cult Of Capital

Capitalism depends upon apathy. The elite, its beneficiaries, must keep the masses, its victims, in the abeyance of indifference. That one should own the factory and be enriched by its revenues while the workers who create that wealth pass their lives in poverty and insecurity, is in conflict with the morality of a high percentage of the world's population. Consequently it is the task of the ruling class to inure its vassals to injustice to such a degree that they no longer recognize it, and accept it as natural or necessary or endemic when they do. Hence the most liberatory, redemptive thing we can do is to care about one another. It is the sina qua non of emancipation.
